Guide Star is a free resource that can be accessed through the Shapiro Library allowing users to search for reports, analysis, and other information on more than a million IRS-registered nonprofit organizations.
To find the Guide Star database start on the library homepage and use the Quick Links box on the left side of the screen to select the option for A-Z Database List.
You will see a list of all databases to which the Shapiro Library holds subscriptions. These databases are listed alphabetically so Guide Star will be found under the letter “G”.
When you open the database you will need to register using your SNHU email address. Registration is free. Once you have registered with Guide Star you will be able to search by criteria such as:
- Location –including city, state, or zip code
- Organizational name
- Employer Identification Number
- Type of Organization
- National headquarters
- National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities Codes
- IRS subsection
