In order to place items on reserve, faculty members need to complete and submit a Reserve Request Form. Forms can also be picked up at the Information Desk. Forms will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis and should be submitted at least two weeks before students will need access to the material.
In order to expedite your request, faculty members should bring all items to be placed on reserve to the Information Desk soon after completing the Reserve Request Form. If you would like to request that the library purchase a book needed for reserve, please contact your school’s library liaison. Please note that it can take between four and eight weeks to complete book orders, so please plan accordingly.
Reserve staff are available to process requests Monday – Friday 8:00am-noon EST. Requests will not be processed on weekends or weeknights.
Materials will be taken off reserve at the end of the semester unless an earlier date is specified by the instructor.
What May be Placed on Reserve:
- Circulating books owned by the Library
- Books owned by the faculty member or department, including textbooks
- Photocopies that comply with U.S. Copyright Law
What May Not be Placed on Reserve:
- Reference books
- Material borrowed through Interlibrary Loan
- Photocopies of individual articles or book chapters. Please use Brightspace/Blackboard to make documents accessible to students while respecting fair use as defined in United States Code Section 17 U.S. Code § 107. If Shapiro Library owns a book that contains a chapter you’d like to place on reserve, library staff will place the book on reserve.
