When should I use the Library Book Search's Advanced Search?

You can use the Library Book Search's Advanced Search when...

  • You are not able to locate the book you need.
  • Your search is bringing back too many results.
  • Your results are not relevant.

How do I find the Advanced Search?

  1. Start at the Library Book Search This link opens in a new window (accessible from the Shapiro Library home page under the "Find Resources" tab at the top of the screen).
  2. Enter an initial search (for example: "remote education").
  3. When the Library Book Search results page opens you can click on "Advanced Search" which is directly below the search bar on the right-hand side.
  4. Enter more search terms or limiters and click the search button to get your results.

What does the Advanced Search do?

  • Search multiple fields (title, author, subject) at the same time. For example:
    • "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" AND Angelou, Maya
    • Biodiversity AND conservation
  • Use limiters to narrow down your search. For example:
    • Narrow by Location in the Library
      • Education Resource Collection
      • Oversize
    • Narrow by Material Type
      • E-Books
