OpenAthens is the authentication system used by the Shapiro Library for access to research resources and services. It provides the Library more flexible resource management options to provide better access to our resources to both on-campus and off-campus users. To access Shapiro Library resources a user enters their university username and password to login.
Benefits of OpenAthens
- Sign-in once, and OpenAthens conveniently remembers your login for hours.
- No need to re-enter your login information when switching between different resources.
- OpenAthens provides the option to login directly from publisher/journal sites.
- Better account security - OpenAthens authenticates using a more secure method called Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) than is used by the previous system (EZProxy).
- Improved usage statistics through OpenAthens will help the library make informed choices about resource selection.
