Using the Advanced Search
We recommend using the Advanced Search feature in the Mental Measurements Yearbook database instead of the basic search. It allows you to search specific fields and refine your results to match your needs better.
To access it, click Advanced Search above the search box on the right.
Search By Keywords
Use the Advanced Search page to find a test by entering keywords into the search boxes. You can search by topic, the population to be tested (age, grade level, gender, etc.), the author, and/or a specific test name or acronym.
Example: If you’re looking for a test that measures Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD):
- Enter Posttraumatic Stress Disorder OR PTSD in the first search box. (The OR tells the database to include results that contain either search term, giving you more results.)
- To narrow your search, you can use the "All Fields" drop-down menu and select an option from the list such as "Purpose-PU" to find tests based on their purpose.
- Apply additional filters for Test Category, Publication Year, or Yearbook Volume below the search boxes.
- Click Search to see your results
Search Results
On the search results page, you can browse through your results. To narrow them down further, click the "All Filters" button below the search box. A window will open with options to filter by Reviews Available, Subject, Publisher, Publication, and Language.
Evaluating and Choosing a Test
Review your search results and click on a test title to view a summary of the test with key details, including the author, purpose, population, and test category.
To read the full-text review, click "Access Now" (to view the text in your browser) or Download button (to save the full text to your device) near the top of the page. The review provides expert evaluations of the test’s quality, including conclusions and recommendations. Be sure to read the reviews carefully to decide if a test meets your needs.
