Esri is a company that provides intelligent mapping software for business, governments, and nonprofits, and they also sell an advanced demographics dataset with detailed community summaries that group people into segments. The segment descriptions are freely available online and are useful for psychographic research.
Esri recently updated its segments with 2025 data, but for the time being, the 2024 data remains available on their Esri Tapestry Segmentation This link opens in a new window site.
(Please note that the Shapiro Library does not subscribe to content on the Esri site outside of what is freely available on the Tapestry Segmentation page.)
Finding Psychographic Data in the 2024 Dataset
From the Esri Tapestry Segmentation This link opens in a new window page, scroll down the to the LifeMode groups This link opens in a new window section and skim the information available to see which segment fits best with your target market.

Each LifeMode group has 4-5 corresponding segments. Each segment is hyperlinked and will open a full PDF report.

Unfortunately, there are no descriptions for the segments, so you may have to explore multiple PDFs to determine which segment is a good match for your target market.
Note about the 2025 data release
With the release of the 2025 data, Esri updated the LifeMode groups and segments, so there is no one-to-one correlation between the 2024 segments and the 2025 segments. Some new segments were created, and others were shifted into existing groups. For more information, see Esri's Migrate to ArcGIS Tapestry This link opens in a new window information.
