Off-Campus Student Library Services Policy

Access to Services

  • Student access privileges starts on the beginning day of your first class and ends after the final date of your last term.
  • Faculty/adjunct/staff access privileges begins 90 days before the start date of the course that you have been assigned to teach and ends 1 year after the final date of your last assigned class

Article Requests - Shapiro In-House Collections

Off-campus students & faculty may request copies of articles from the Library's in-house print journals and periodicals by submitting an Interlibrary Loan This link opens in a new window Request Form.

Use of copied articles must be in accordance with copyright laws of the United States – Title 17, U.S. Code.

Before making requests, please check the availability of the periodical or journal via the Periodical Finder This link opens in a new window as we may already have it available in one of our online article databases.

Copied articles from in-house titles will be transmitted in a timely manner, usually via e-mail. There are no charges for copying or forwarding articles from our in-house periodical collections. Articles do not have to be returned to the Library.

Borrowing

The Library pays both the outgoing and return postage for material. Items will be mailed via FedEx to US addresses and generally arrive within 1-3 business days.

All items will be checked out for a 4 week time period. PLEASE NOTE: checkout time includes the days it takes to ship. It is highly suggested that borrowers renew their items shortly before mailing them for return so items do not become overdue while they are en route back to the library.

The following items are not available for checkout

  • In-house reference materials
  • Video games
  • Videogame systems
  • Equipment
  • Course reserve items
  • Board games

Interlibrary Loan Services

Please refer to our full Interlibrary Loan Policy for further information on this service.

Lost/Damaged Materials

The borrower is responsible for all items from the moment they are mailed from Shapiro Library until the moment they are received back at Shapiro Library.  This responsibility includes the physical condition of items and any replacement or processing costs that may be incurred.

Overdue Materials

Items that are returned to the Library more than four (4) weeks after the due date will be subject to both per-item replacement charge(s) (of at least $100/item) and a non-refundable processing fee of $15.00 per item.  The returning postmark date will be accepted as the return date when considering whether an item is overdue. Material postmarked after the due date will incur fines if received more than four weeks past the due date.

Not all parcel delivery services use postmark dates—if there is no postmark date, the date received will be used as the check-in date.

Renewals

Borrowers may renew items online if other borrowers have not placed holds on those items. Borrowers may check their records and request renewals by logging in to the "Your Library Account" feature in the Online Library Catalog using their mySNHU user name and mySNHU password.
