Language to describe the status and location of full text varies across databases, but here are some examples of indicators you might see that can help you determine if the full text is attached to the detailed item record.

Full Text Indicators. These indicators tell you that the detailed item record includes the full text of the item.

  • HTML Full Text
  • PDF Full Text

Full Text Available in another Database. These indicators tell you that you need to follow the link path to a new database to find the full text. When you see these indicators, follow them to the full-text.

  • Link to Record in...
  • eBook Full Text
  • View Record at...

Full Text Finder. This indicator means that we might have the full text, as above, but we might not. More exploration is needed to determine if we can link to this item, and where.

If we do not have the full text, individual researchers can request the article through Interlibrary Loan, but this service is not appropriate for use in courses.

In the results list, you may see full text indicator icons below each search result. If you find a record with full text, you can find or build a link that takes students to that detailed item record.

There is some variation in how these indicators appear. In some databases, the indicators may be text instead of icons. Be on the look out for full text and Full Text Finder options.
